Voting information for electors

If you live on a First Nation reserve in one of the by-election electoral districts:

• Use Voter Registration to check, update or add your information. When searching for your home address in the 'Address information' section, select ‘First Nation reserve' and choose your reserve from the drop-down menu below
• You will need to upload one piece of accepted ID showing your name and home address to add or update your information

If you do not have ID showing your name and home address, your First Nation band or reserve can issue you a Letter of Confirmation of Residence that you can use to both register and vote.

You can still vote in one of the current by-elections without a permanent address:

• Your address for voting is the place where you have returned most often to eat or sleep during the past five weeks.

If you do not have ID showing both your name and home address:

• The administrator of a shelter, food bank or community health care facility you use most often can provide a Certificate of Identity and Residence
• You and the administrator must sign the form. Use this form as your ID when you go to vote.
• The administrator will:
  • find your assigned voting location using Voter Information Service; AND
  • write your voting location information on the form
• Bring the completed form to your assigned voting location
• Give the form to the election official to receive a ballot to vote

Vote by mail if you are:

• incarcerated in a federal or provincial facility; OR
• serving a sentence or detention in an open or secure youth custody facility AND will be 18 years of age or older on election day

Home address:

• The place where you lived before incarceration or sentencing
• Your home address must be in one of the electoral districts with a current by-election
  • This determines the electoral district where your ballot is counted

At the start of the by-election:

• Elections Ontario will have notifed all federal, provincial, and youth facilities 
• the facility will provide each eligible elector with:
  • instructions; AND
  • the Vote by Mail Application for Incarcerated Electors & Young Persons Serving Sentences/Detention
• Elections Ontario must receive completed applications by 6 PM on August 28
• once approved, a voting kit will be sent to the facility

• Elections Ontario must receive completed voting kits by 6 PM on September 3 to be counted
