Elections Ontario gives young people practical ways to take part through the Ontario Register of Future Voters, paid election jobs, outreach activities, and classroom resources that make it easier to understand Ontario’s electoral process and get ready to participate.

To vote in a provincial election in Ontario, you must be:
18 years of age or older;
a Canadian citizen; and
a resident of Ontario.
The Ontario Register of Future Voters is a list of eligible 16 and 17-year-olds who are pre-registered to vote and automatically added to the voters list when they turn 18.
Signing up makes your first voting experience easier. When you become eligible to vote, you’ll receive a voter information card in the mail before the next Ontario provincial election with details on when and where to vote.
Elections Ontario hires election officials to work at voting locations. All positions are paid and training is provided. When an Ontario provincial election has been called, you can apply to work during the election using the online job application or by contacting the local election office.
To work as an election official, you must be:
at least 18 years of age (at least 16 years of age for the position of Information Assistant and Tabulator Deputy Returning Officer);
a Canadian citizen; and
a resident of Ontario.
Working as an election official is a great way to earn valuable work experience for your resume, earn money, support your community, and learn about elections first-hand.
We run a paid Summer Student Program out of our Toronto office. Positions are typically posted on our Employment Centre page in the late winter or early spring.
If you are an eligible elector studying in Ontario but living away from home for school, you have two options for where to vote:
- in the electoral district for your permanent home address; or
- in the electoral district for your address while attending school.
Use Voter Registration to check, update, or add your information to the voters list.
Yes. If you are an eligible elector studying outside Ontario, you can still vote by mail. You can either:
- apply to receive a voting kit when an election is called; or
- add yourself to the Register of Absentee Voters
If you are on the Register of Absentee Voters, we will automatically send you a voting kit to vote by mail when an election in your electoral district is called.

We define a resident of Ontario as the place where an individual primarily sleeps and eats. A university student living on or off campus may meet that requirement if they consider their Ontario residence their primary home.
Elections Ontario accepts many forms of proof of address, including: school admissions letters, transcripts and tuition statements. Use Voter Registration to check, update, add or remove your information from the voters list.
