Elections Ontario Public Education program

Elections Ontario has created a PowerPoint presentation to help make learning about elections easy. It includes information about the Ontario electoral process, as well as information about who can vote, how to vote and when to vote.

The PowerPoint presentation can be used as an instructional tool for educators and group leaders who want to lead discussions about voting. It is also helpful for individuals who want to learn more about how to vote in an election.

Voting Rules! A new toolkit for educators

Elections Ontario and Elections Canada recently developed an exciting, new civics program. Called Voting Rules! the program is a toolkit for educators. It is presented in the form of a graphic novel and features dialogue-driven lesson plans, engaging activities and information about elections. We have based it on Ontario’s Grade 5 and Grade 10 curricula.

In spring 2011 we distributed about 800 copies of Voting Rules! to Canadian educators. We are using their classroom feedback to prepare the program for province-wide release in 2012.

Information for first-time voters

Every year Elections Ontario sends brochures to school boards for students who are or will soon be 18 years old, the voting age in Ontario. The “Voting in Ontario” brochure includes information about the voting process, the right to vote and how to have your name added to the Voters List.
