How to Register as a Third Party

You must register as a third party with Elections Ontario if you have spent or plan to spend more than $500 on political advertising during an election period.

Before you can register as a third party with us, you must appoint a chief financial officer (CFO).

You must appoint an auditor if you plan to spend or have spent $5,000 or more on political advertising during an election period.

There is no fee to register as a third party.

When you fill out forms, please be sure that:

  • all information is accurate and complete (inaccurate information will cause delays and may be a contravention of the Election Finances Act)
  • information is typed or printed clearly on the form
  • you check each form carefully for information about where to submit it

Please note that filling out these forms is not a replacement for your responsibility to follow auditable bookkeeping practices.

For complete guidelines, see our CFO Handbook for Third Parties.
