TORONTO — Eligible students at colleges and universities who permanently reside in the Electoral District of Toronto Centre can be added to the Voters List at advance polls or on Election Day.
All electors need proper identification that shows proof of identity and proof of residence to register to vote. Acceptable identification could include documentation showing name, address and signature such as an Ontario Driver’s Licence. A complete list of acceptable identification is located on www.elections.on.ca.
Students are eligible to vote in the electoral district where they permanently reside. It is up to the student to determine their permanent residence based on the Election Act.
The Ontario Election Act defines “residence” as the place a person intends to return whenever they are absent for any length of time. The Act states that:
• The place where their family resides is their permanent residence until they move elsewhere with the intention of making that change permanent.
• If a person has no other permanent lodging place, the place where he or she occupies a room or part of a room as a regular lodger is his or her residence.
