TORONTO, October 9, 2007 – Elections Ontario is reminding qualified electors who are not on the Voters List that they can still vote on Election and Referendum Day.
“Even if you have not received a Notice of Registration Card, you can still add your name to the Voters List,” says John Hollins, Chief Electoral Officer for Ontario. “You can register and vote at your local polling place by providing documents that show proof of identity and proof of residence.”
A change to electoral law requires electors who are on the List to show documents that prove their identity in order to receive their ballots. Electors who are on the Voters List, but do not have proof of identity, can make a declaration.
Electors can find out where they vote by calling 1-888-668-8683 (1-888-ONT-VOTE).
To be eligible to vote, on polling day a person must be:
• 18 years of age or older,
• a Canadian citizen, and
• a resident of the electoral district.
