Notice of Registration cards arrive this week

TORONTO — April 28, 2004 — In preparation for the May 13 provincial by-election in Hamilton East, Elections Ontario is mailing Notice of Registration cards this week to all electors whose names appear on the Hamilton East Preliminary Voters List.

The Notice of Registration card identifies:

  • Returning Office contact information,
  • the dates and locations for advance poll voting, and
  • the location of the poll where the elector votes on election day.

Electors should bring their card with them for easy identification at the poll, to ensure they are able to vote as efficiently as possible.

Eligible electors who have not received their cards by May 1 should contact the Returning Office. Those who have recently moved or turned 18 may not be on the List. Electors who wish to make a change to the information on their Notice of Registration card or verify their poll location should contact the Returning Office.

The mailing of the cards follows an intense, eight-day target revision initiative by revising agents in areas of high mobility. This includes apartments, new housing developments, nursing homes and other areas in which a high turnover of residents has been identified. Electors who added or changed their information during the target revision period will receive a white card to replace or update the yellow card.

To be eligible to vote, on polling day a person must be:

  • 18 years of age or older,
  • a Canadian citizen, and
  • a resident of the Electoral District of Hamilton East.
