TORONTO, October 2, 2003 – Elections Ontario is reminding qualified electors who are not on the Voters List that they can still vote today.
“Even if you have not received a Notice of Registration Card, you can still add your name to the Voters List today,” says John Hollins, Chief Election Officer for Ontario. “You will just need to find your poll location and go with appropriate identification that shows your name, address and signature.”
Appropriate identification includes either a document that shows the voter’s name, address, and signature, such as a driver's license, or two identification documents: one that shows his or her name and signature, such as an old age security card, credit card, passport or citizenship card and one that shows the name and residence address, such as a tax bill or a utility bill.
Polling locations may be obtained from the local returning office or through Elections Ontario. Returning office locations and phone numbers may be obtained from the Elections Ontario website at www.electionsontario.on.ca or by calling Elections Ontario at 1-888-668-8683 (1-888-ONT-VOTE).
To be eligible to vote, on polling day a person must be:
- 18 years of age or older,
- a Canadian citizen, and
- a resident of the electoral district.
– 30 –
