Polling extended 1 hour for Denbigh polls

TORONTO, October 2, 2003 – Ontario’s Chief Election Officer has announced the extension of polling hours in the two polls located in Denbigh, Ontario.

The decision was made due to a closure on Highway 41 that requires a detour of up to one hour to reach the polls.

The Chief Election Officer, John Hollins, has directed the returning officer for Hastings-Frontenac-Lennox and Addington, Bernadette Derry, to extend polling hours to 9:00 this evening at polls #46 and #47. No results from Hastings-Frontenac-Lennox-Addington will be reported until the Denbigh polls close at 9:00 p.m.

Section 40 (4) of the Ontario Election Act provides for the Chief Election Officer to extend the closing time of a poll if polling is interrupted during polling hours. Polling hours normally run from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. EST.
