Introduction to Third Party Election Advertising

This information package is provided to assist those individuals and organizations that, while not registered as a candidate, party or constituency association, seek to promote or oppose a political party or the election of a candidate in a by-election or general election.

As required under the Election Finances Act (”EFA”), the Chief Electoral Officer has responsibility for the administration of regulations controlling the financing of political activities in any election to ensure the process is fair, transparent, and accessible for all Ontarians.

The guidelines are intended to assist third parties and their chief financial officers (CFO) in meeting the registration and reporting requirements of the EFA.

In particular, the guidelines deal with registration, contribution, election advertising, and reporting rules.
These guidelines are made under the authority of the Election Finances Act.
