Leadership contests are periodically held by registered political parties to elect a leader. The Election Finances Act sets out the rules for these events which differ from those of general elections. Similar to other political entities there are registration and reporting requirements although there are distinct differences for leadership contestants. For example: there are no contribution or expense limits.
